Arch Wireless
If ever a sillier thing were to be, we might go back to a quipping our soldiers with a bow and arrow. Perhaps a cannon; perhaps a sword. This is the equivalent to what has happened to Arch wireless. Arch wireless was once a formidable pager service in the United States. Arch wireless has since gone on to become a part of the USA mobility. However, the wheels of justice in the United States turned slowly. And it wasn't until very recently that an antitrust suit was brought up against Arch wireless for their practices.
Okay; but here's a question… who cares?
It would seem to me that to the pager services were dead and many, many years ago. And yet here we are still fighting the good fight against a company that no longer exists. How very American of us, eh?
And so it goes that Arch wireless pager service will go down in the annals of history as being “That-now-defunct-pager-service-which-was-then-defunct-but-who’s-counting-because-we-got-the-bad-guy” pager service that was roped up in an antitrust suit.
It seems to me, or least by my watch, that the pager services is in the United States have been out of commission for quite some time now. Friends and enemies have been made and lost; lives have been changed; lives have been lost. So wouldn't it seem appropriate then that we would leave the something like this to rest? A company being absorbed by another company in the United States is never a pleasant thing; a whole industry being lost is quite another still. What is it about our narcissism that would make us want to pick at the wound left by the pager industry?
Arch wireless no longer offers pager services. Arch wireless pagers have now become another company. Arch wireless pager plans are no longer available. Arch wireless paging is a thing of the past.
It would seem to me that it would be very kind to just leave that be that. The pager services in the United States enjoyed a great run. For over a long while there are many people had, used, and enjoyed to their pagers. But those times are over now; people have different modes of getting in touch with each other. Do we really need to go back and revisit a time that is so damaging to many? But what do I know? I'm only one man and the voice of one man can never silence the cries of the many.
